ECA X DeGournay

This project, set by luxury wallpaper company De Gournay, involved the development of a full-scale chinoiserie wallpaper design alongside three hand-painted sample panels in different colourways. The brief required a high level of precision and craftsmanship, combining detailed illustration, painting, and an understanding of traditional decorative arts.

My research into the history of chinoiserie informed a contemporary interpretation of the style, focusing on the balance between historical reference and modern execution. I developed a detailed composition featuring dahlias and wisteria as key floral motifs, alongside Chinese egrets, all hand-painted in gouache. The work demonstrates strong technical ability in fine brushwork, colour control, and large-scale decorative illustration, as well as an understanding of pattern repeat and surface design for luxury interiors.

The final outcomes showcase my versatility across painting and illustration, as well as my ability to translate historical visual language into refined, commercially relevant design work.
